Brook Farm is inspired by a vision to grow food beautifully, chart a path toward regenerative agriculture and discover magic in nature.
Our Story
Across mythologies, figs and iris have linked heaven to earth. Figs inspire knowledge and enlightenment. The iris symbolizes courage, hope, and wisdom.
Brook Farm is located in the Osage cuestas of northeastern Kansas, next door to our family’s Wakarusa Ridge Ranch.
Our intention to farm is grounded in conversations that started twenty years ago when we met. That summer, after working at the Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute, Laura brought home a fig tree that became part of an urban forest garden in Kansas City and ultimately inspired some of our first plantings at Brook Farm. The iris gardens were planted many years ago and showcase over two hundred named varieties.
Our stewardship of Brook Farm will be guided by our experiences in urban homesteading, engineering with nature, and searching for paths toward sustainability. As we learn to cultivate food and flowers, we honor the land itself and the people who have stewarded it throughout generations.
